Probably the most popular pastrie in your picnic hamper

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz. (350g) cooked onions
  • 4 oz. (125g) grated cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped parsley
  • salt and pepper
  • quarter pint of white sauce
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 8 oz. (225g) short crust pastry
  • Cooking Instructions:

    1. Pre-heat oven to 400F, Gas Mark 6, 200C
    2. Roll out the pastry thinly and cut into 4 inch (10 cm.) rounds
    3. Chop the onions, mix with all the other ingredients and season carefully
    4. Put a good spoonful of the mixture on each pastry round
    5. Damp edges and fold over, pressing edges well together
    6. Score across the top of the pastry, put on a baking tray and bake in the pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes
