Anchovy Twists
Description/Notes:
Dainty little strips of anchovy in cheese pastry twists; great for your buffet party
Ingredients:
8 oz. (225g) plain flour 4 oz. (125g) margarine 3 oz. (75g) cheddar cheese, grated 2 oz. (50g) can anchovies pepper 1 egg, beaten
Cooking Instructions:
- Pre-heat oven to 425F, Gas Mark 7, 210C
- Drain the anchovies and cut each in half lengthways
- Place the flour in a bowl and add a good shake of pepper
- Rub in the margarine and add the cheese
- Mix to a stiff dough with egg and a little cold water
- Roll out pastry on a floured board to one eighth of an inch thick
- Place the anchovy strips on the pastry and cut around them, so that there is an anchovy strip on a narrow piece of pastry
- Pick each up, twist about twice, so that the anchovy is twisted together with the pastry
- Place on a baking sheet and bake in the center of the pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes,
until lightly browned and crisp
- Remove and cool on a wire rack
