Sugared Doughnuts
Description/Notes:
Doughnuts, yes please
Ingredients:
1 lb. (450g ) self-raising flour pinch of salt 8 oz. ( 225g ) caster sugar 6 oz. ( 175g ) margarine 2 large eggs, beaten 8 tablespoons of milk 2 level teaspoons ground cinnamon oil or lard for deep frying
Cooking Instructions:
- Put flour, salt and 2 oz. ( 50g ) caster sugar in a mixing bowl
- Rub in margarine then mix with egg and milk
- Roll out dough on a floured surface to a quarter inch thickness
- Cut out rounds using a three and a half inch plain round cutter
- Cut holes in center using a one and a half inch plain round cutter
- Re-roll trimmings and cut out more
- Fry doughnuts in hot oil or lard for 5 minutes, until well risen and golden brown
- Drain on kitchen paper
- Mix cinnamon and remaining sugar together then toss doughnuts in sugar
- Pile doughnuts up neatly on a plate or arrange on a stick of rock
